SWOT Analysis
Throughout my life, I have always had certain skills that I have excelled in, and others that I have struggled in. The following SWOT Analysis will help you to further understand my Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats. I know I need work in some areas, and by highlighting which areas I need improvement in, I feel I’m taking steps in the right direction to fix those problems.
Strengths
- Excellent Listening Skills: When it comes to following to directions, I always do my best to do exactly what I’m told.
- Work ethic: I have always been taught to work hard, and do what you’re told. I feel that my experience in the construction industry has engrained this skill in me. I always show up to work on time, stay late if I need to, and complete all work given to me.
- I’m a bit of a perfectionist. I always want everything to be right. If something isn’t quite right, it will bother me until it is fixed.
- I’m always looking for better ways to do things. I try to find ways to increase efficiency in my school work, internship, and everyday life.
Weaknesses
- Oral Communication: I tend to be very shy and quiet around people I don’t know, or in situations in which I’m not fully comfortable. Im trying to overcome this shyness by speaking up in situations I usually wouldn't.
- Business experience: Although my major is in business Management, I have no management and or business experience. Other than my internship with a staffing company, my business experience is very limited.
- Technology: My technology knowledge is fairly limited in some areas. I know the basics of the internet, and I'm fairly compitent in Microsoft products such as Access, Word, PowerPoint, excel, etc. My skills have improved due to my internship, but I still want to learn more.
Opportunities
-
Networking: Networking is fairly new to me, but I’ve already seen the advantages of networking in my job search. I’ve heard so much about the importance of networking, and I’ve taken steps to improve my networking abilities. With networking, I will have a greater chance to find jobs, beat my competitors, and expand my knowledge of available job opportunities.
Threats
-
One of the biggest threats that I will encounter upon graduation is the fact I will have a Bachelors degree in business, along with hundreds of other graduates. This will hurt my chances of finding a job, and also hurt my abilities to get what I want in a job. With unemployment being so high, employers are able to pick and chose who they want to higher, and what they want to offer the new higher. I need to be able to stand out among my competitors to increase my chances of being hired.
