SMART Goals

Smart Measureable Attainable Realistic Time Bound

Short Term

Recently, I have given a lot of thought to my short term goals. I will be graduating with my Bachelors degree in December 2011. My degree will be in Business Administration, with a concentration in Management. Once I have graduated, I plan to find a full time job as quickly as possible. I could go back to my old job in the construction industry, but that’s a worst case scenario. I’m hoping that my current internship with The ACI Group will turn in to a full time position.

So far, I don’t have any certain job or company in mind. I really don’t have any business experience, and I don’t know exactly what type of job I would be best suited for. I have already started the process of looking for work, and I’m hoping I can find something within a month of graduating. If I do find an entry level position fairly quickly, I'm hoping to gain some business experience and knowledge, and then move on to a higher position.

Mid Term

I am currently in need of a new vehicle, and my plan is to buy a new vehicle once I have a job. I already have a bit of money saved up, but I don’t want to make a big investment until I have a decent income. I also plan to buy my first house at the end of my first year of work. Every time I get paid, I will only take what I need, and put the rest in the bank. I would like to have a sizable down payment set aside by the end of my first year of work.

I have not yet decided on furthering my education, but with everything I hear, I will need to spend the time on getting my MBA. I wouldn’t go back to school right after getting my BA. If I was to go back, I would probably wait at least two years. I need a break after getting my BA.

After a few years, I will have hopefully advanced my position within the same company, or found a better job with a different company. Also, I would like to be married and possibly have one or two children within five years of graduating with my BA.

Long Term

In 2025, I can see myself in an upper level business job, possibly with my MBA. I would be living in my dream home which is a water front home. Also, I would have two or three children, each with a growing college fund. I don’t expect to be rich, but I expect to be comfortable financially. In my job, I will still be working my way up the corporate ladder, with my sights set on an executive position.

By 2035, I will be 48 years old, and looking in the near future at the possibility of retiring. If everything goes right financially, I would like to retire no later than 55. Being 48 I would think that at least one of my children would be in college. The college fund set up for my children, should be large enough to take care of most, if not all of their schooling.

In 2042, I could see myself retiring, or at least working part time. I want to be young enough when I retire to still be able to travel, spend time with my family, and do some of the things I've always wanted to do.
